NEWS UPDATE….EXTRA CURRICULARS AT SMLCA
Aug 26th, 2010 | By schooladmin | Category: Featured ArticlesMrs. Mason and Mr. Rodriguez met with Upper School students earlier this week to gauge interest in potential extra curricular activities in sports and performing fine arts. Both Mrs. Mason and Mr. Rodriguez made suggestions for starting after-school activities in each of those categories.
In regards to sports, we used the meeting to gather information and begin researching the possibility of starting an organized athletic program. We discussed co-ed cross country, boys basketball and springtime tennis or golf team as ideas with the students. While there are potential coaches for cross country and basketball, Mr. Rodriguez and Mrs. Mason will be addressing the PTA and Board for soliciting volunteers to help get an SMLCA sports program underway.
In regards to the performing arts, there was significant interest in step-dancing, skits/dramas, and music. An official performing group is in the process of being formed. This particular group is open to Upper School and no experience is necessary. Mr. Rodriguez and Mrs. Mason will be placing students within the group based on their ability level, talents and interests in learning a new performance skill. The performance team plans to meet every Tuesday 3-4PM through September to start.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call Mrs. Mason at 540-309-0315 or email Mr. Rodriguez at jrodriguez@smlacademy.com.
